4 & 5 Star Reads
Conversations with Friends (4) – I read this because I wanted to watch the tv series, but Hulu took it down. I really enjoyed Normal People (both the book and show), so I was looking forward to this. I love Rooney’s writing style (though I agree with many others, the lack of quotation marks makes it a little more difficult to read) and the way she writes complicated relationships.
The Housemaid (4.5) – I read this on a whim, needing something to read on my kindle after I DNF’d Haunting Adeline. It drew me in quickly, and I enjoyed how twisty it was. I will definitely read more of McFadden’s books.
Gideon the Ninth (5) – this was a re-read, and a readalong with Julie. I love this series so, so much. I had already been thinking about re-reading, as it’s such a complex series, reading it multiple times feels necessary.
Dark Disciple (5) – I read this because starwarsexplained said to, and I read it in one sitting. Believe it or not, I had some time completely alone and no one was around to interrupt! Now I want to go watch The Clone Wars.
Lore of the Wilds (4) – A fantastic debut fantasy romance! I cannot wait for the next one. It did lose me temporarily, which is why it lost a star, but it picked back up!
How Long ’til Black Future Month? (5) – Jemisin is an auto-read author for me, I will pick up anything of hers, forever, always. This is a collection of her short stories, full of magic and sci-fi blended into reality.
The Spirit Bares Its Teeth (5) – Add White to my favorite author list! I love the trans and ASP rep in this novel, and its mix of horror, magic systems, and historical fiction. Truly a masterpiece.
