4 & 5 Star Reads
Iron Flame (5) – The Graphic Audio version of Iron Flame is an immersive experience with its full cast of voice actors, sound effects, and musical score. Violet is still whiny and this version of the book made me hate Xaden.
An Ember in the Ashes (4) – This dual-POV fantasy/dystopian YA(ish) novel starts slow but eventually develops and draws the reader in. The story takes place in a brutal, Roman-inspired world, following Laia, a slave fighting for her family, and Elias, a solider desiring freedom. An Ember in the Ashes seemed to potentially suffer from First Book Syndrome, so I’m excited to read the rest of the series.
The Subtle Knife (4) – The Subtle Knife continues the His Dark Materials series with a new hero, Will. The story jumps between different worlds, keeping things exciting and fresh. Pullman does a great job creating interesting places and characters that make you want to keep reading.
Clean Point (5) – I don’t usually do sports romance, truly, because I don’t do sports. Clean Point luckily didn’t focus *too* much on tennis, so it held my attention throughout this cute story. Scottie was such a likable character and I was fully invested in this romance and rooting for her the whole time. Bonus: this one’s on Kindle Unlimited!
Once Upon a Time (4) – Excuse me while the Kennedys become my new hyper fixation.
